【摘要】:Sulfuroxidegasesareproducedduringthecombustionofmaterialscontainingsulfur.Thesegasesareprecursorsofatmosphericsulfuricacid,whichhasbeenshowntobeinjurioustolivingcreaturesandplants,aswellassomeinanimatematerialssuchasmetals,limestoneandsandstonebuildingmaterials.Sulfurdioxideismoderatelytoxicandstronglyphytotoxictomanyspecies.PermissibleambientlevelsofSO2havebeenestablishedbylaw.Whenitisnecessarytoestablishwhetherambientairconcentrationsofsulfuricacidprecursors,suchassulfuroxides,arepresentandtocomplywithlegalcriteria,manualandautomaticmonitoringsystemsspecificfortheindividualsulfurspeciesareused.LikelylocationsformonitoringsitesfortheestimationofconcentrationsandconcentrationtrendsoverlongperiodsoftimecanbescreenedconvenientlyusingthePbO2candlesorsulfationplates.Atmosphericcorrosionofmetallicmaterialsisafunctionofmanyweatherandatmosphericvariables.Theeffectofspecificcorrodants,suchasSO2,canacceleratetheatmosphericcorrosionofmetalsorstructuressignificantly.ThePbO2candleandsulfationplatetestmethodsprovidesimpletechniquestomonitorSO2levelsintheatmosphereindependentlytoyieldaweightedaverageresult.TheresultsofthesetestmethodsareusefulforcharacterizingatmosphericcorrosiontestsitesregardingtheeffectiveaverageconcentrationsofSO2intheatmosphereattheselocations.Thesetestmethodsareusefulfordeterminingmicroclimaticseasonalandlong-termvariationsineffectiveaverageSO2concentrations.TheresultsofthesetestmethodsmaybeusedincorrelationsofatmosphericcorrosionrateswithatmospheredatatodeterminethesensitivityofthecorrosionratetotheSO2level.Thesetestmethodsmayalsobeusedwithothertestmethodstocharacterizetheatmosphereatsitesatwhichbuildingsorotherconstructionareplannedinordertodeterminetheextentofprotectivemeasuresrequiredforthematerialsofconstruction.1.1Thesetestmethodsdescribetheevaluationofthetotalsulfationactivityintheatmosphere.Becauseofitsoxidizingpower,leaddioxide(PbO2)convertsnotonlysulfurdioxide(SO2),butothercompounds,suchasmercaptansandhydrogensulfide,intosulfate.Itfixessulfurtrioxideandsulfuricacidmistpresentintheatmosphere(seeNote0).1.2TestMethodAdescribestheuseofaPbO2candle,andTestMethodBdescribesthatofaPbO2sulfationplate.1.3ThesetestmethodsprovideaweightedaverageeffectiveSO2levelfora30-dayinterval.1.4TheresultsofthesetestmethodscorrelateapproximatelywithvolumetricSO2concentrations,althoughthepresenceofdeworcondensedmoisturetendstoenhancethecaptureofSO2ontothecandleorplate.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsshallberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninbracketsareforinformationonlyandmaybeapproximate.Note0IthasbeenshownthattherateconstantofthechemicalreactionbetweenSO2andPbO2isindependentoftheconcentrationofSO2uptolevelsof1000ppm(v),if15%orlessofthePbO2hasbeenreduced().15%ofthePbO2isequivalentto11to12mgofSO2/cm2perday.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.......
