【摘要】:ISO/IEC8802localareanetworks(LANs)ofalltypescanbeconnectedtogetherusingMACbridges.EachindividualLANhasitsownindependentMAC.ThebridgedLANcreatedallowstheinterconnectionofstationsasiftheywereattachedtoasingleLAN,althoughtheyareinfactattachedtoseparateLANseachwithitsownMAC.AMACbridgeoperatesbelowtheMACserviceboundary,andislargelytransparenttoprotocolsoperatingabovethisboundary,intheLogicalLinkControl(LLC)sublayerorNetworklayer.ThepresenceofoneormoreMACbridgescanleadtodifferencesinthequalityofserviceprovidedbytheMACsublayer;itisonlybecauseofsuchdifferencesthatMACbridgeoperationisnotfullytransparent.
